Before I show you the latest about our General Store, I wanted to go into a few details about CASA. Because if you are like me, you really don't know much about them unfortunately!
Here is an excerpt from their "about page":
CASA was founded on the hope of finding a home for any child in need of safe and permanent living.
CASA volunteers are a sworn-in-officer of the court and are assigned to an abuse or neglect case as soon as they complete extensive training. The volunteer then does in-depth research on the sponsored child in order to make a recommendation of what would be the best long-term solution to a very serious short-term problem.
Throughout the experience, the CASA volunteer is fighting for the child’s future and continues to be an advocate until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.
A pretty amazing way to give back to your community isn't it? Can you imagine that type of volunteer work? CASA volunteers must be angels to those children!
So why are we building a child's playhouse for them? It was our way to give back to so they can turn around and auction it off next Saturday night (July 31st) at their Wild West Fest to raise money for CASA!
Today a big truck came from Earthworks to pick up the house and take it to the auction site... big news around here because it meant it was FINISHED!
I'm not sure you can tell from Phil's posture or the drivers face but they had NO idea how this was going to work because the house was SO heavy!
Kurt took a look trying to figure it out...
Phil, still not sure...
Even Grayson (Rick's grandson and my little guy) doesn't believe they can figure this out! HA!
But then a flash bulb goes off and they realize that if they can add weight to the front it will help balance it... unfortunately Phil was designated the "weight"! HA!
What Phil wouldn't do for KCCI!
Doesn't he look thrilled in there?
At least the additional "weight" worked! We had liftoff!
Joe and Kurt helped guide it to the truck...
I love that Kurt thought to attach our banner to the house... free advertising from Kirkwood to Chesterfield! Love free advertising!
And so that's that!
Three long months of working on it in spare time in the Kuhn driveway... well over 100 man-hours put in by KCCI guys since April! Thanks to Casey, Phil, Angelo, Jordan, Kurt, Joe and Rick for giving of your time for such an amazing cause.
Thanks also to St. Louis Homes and Lifestyle Magazine, Barb Slavkin Interiors, RSG, Beyers Lumber, 84 Lumber, Lakeside Exteriors, James Hardie, Red Bird Crane, James Custom Sheet Metal, Velux, Earthworks, Diane Hansen of Decorative Painting Interiors and Donahue Painting & Refinishing for helping to make this happen! We couldn't have done it without all of you!
We will be back with images of all the donated CASA houses next week sometime and Rick and I will also be at the Wild West Fest next Saturday so we can watch the house be auctioned off! It'll be kind of sad to see it go and my kids will most definitely miss watching the building process in Grandma and PawPaw's backyard, but we're excited for the family that receives it as well!
Thanks for the opportunity CASA!
