When a car drives through your house... Kuhn to the rescue! | St. Louis General Contractor

Recently there was a pretty major car accident at one of our client's homes. Somehow (we have never heard details) a person drove their car over the curb, through the front yard and UP onto their front porch straight into their house! Can you even imagine? The craziest part for us is that this is the second client to have this happen to them in Webster!

Here are some shots the home owners took the night it happened...

We're not finished yet but here is some progress!

New stucco, a fixed front door, new steps, etc. Things are taking shape and starting to feel like home again I'm sure! Can you imagine someone crashing into your home like that? We're so glad we have been able to help!

Lunch with Gussie.

Once a month MJ takes off for lunch with her mom's best friend Roberta (Grandma Berta to my kids) and her grade school Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Augusta Feehan (Gussie). Last month I got to go and I quickly snapped a shot of the three of them. Gussie, on the left, is 105 and Berta, in the wheelchair, is 96.

We both love and adore them... such a blessing to our lives. Especially Roberta who has been like my Grandma since I was born.

Again, it's nice to work for a family business where you can take a few hours out of your work week to encourage relationships with such incredible women.

Cookie baking day.

Oh the joys of a family business! Makes it super easy to take a day off work and bake Christmas cookies!

We took the kids out of school (it's easy when the oldest is in first grade!) and had a great day baking! Of course PawPaw had to keep the business running but us girls had a blast keeping up a tradition that started when I was a little girl!

Saying goodbye to a good friend.

Last week I went with my dad to the STL airport to say goodbye to Stephen and Lillian Dokolo. Stephen was here a few years ago as a seminary student and our family got to know him while he attended our church. He and Rick bonded quickly because of Rick's trip to his town of Lui in Southern Sudan (they knew people in common and had lots to talk about!) and ended up dear friends. Stephen was here for a few years and then went home where he became the current Episcopal Bishop of the Discese of Lui in Southern Sudan. He and his beautiful wife, Lillian, got to come back here a few weeks ago for a visit and it was so amazing to see him again and to meet Lillian!

A group of people met to wish them well and pray for their long journey back home...

It was sad to say goodbye but so amazing to know what a blessing they are to the chuches in Lui!

He and my mom are celebrating their wedding anniversary on a lake this week and I hope they're truly enjoying the fresh air and time to relax! They SO deserve it!

On being creative | St. Louis Church Remodeler

In this economy I think you have to try to stand out from your competition in simple and easy ways. We've been revamping our marketing materials to make them look more "boutique" so that our clients like receiving things from us. It's the little things right?

Recently I've been playing with other designs also in an attempt to stand out and make people slow down to notice us. Here is an example... we are about to start working on refinishing and replacing three doors at a local church so for a few days here and there people will need to enter at other places. We decided that spending a little extra cash to make directional signs would be a good idea to help people from getting confused and I decided it would be a good place to have a little fun!

Progress | St. Louis Kitchen Remodler

I have dreams of being on each job we're doing every day and taking "in progress" shots to really capture how a job moves from beginning to end. But then boring important office work pops up and I'm strapped to my chair.

So pretend like this kind of stuff happens on the blog weekly instead of rarely ok? Ok. Thanks.

And to see where we started... the "before"

The guys have been hard at work demoing and now working on installing the floor and cabinets. I can't wait to see this kitchen finished!

A finished kitchen | St. Louis Kitchen Remodeler

I am obsessed with this kitchen. And not just because it has shelves with yard sticks but because you walk in and immediately want to sit down to share a cup of coffee. It's huge but incredibly cozy. It's light and airy but so so warm and inviting. The perfect kitchen for this century+ old home in Webster Groves!

Creative use of found objects! | St. Louis General Contractor

One of my FAVORITE KCCI clients let me come over last week to take "after" shots of her GORGEOUS Webster Groves kitchen and while I will share her entire kitchen soon I just had to share her incredible use of found objects! A GREAT idea for any DIYers out there!

Just off her kitchen is the tiny room (an old porch KCCI enclosed) that leads to her backdoor and in there she has all of her cookbooks.

The shelves are cheap store-bought ones she had in her old kitchen before the renovation but do you notice anything interesting?

She glued antique yard sticks, dice and dominos to the edges for some added interest! It totally works with her fun folk-art she has smattered throughout her home but even if you didn't have a lot of folk-art-type pieces you could find something else that works with your decor to add interest to your shelves! I just LOVE this idea!
